Sydney Centre for Neurosurgery welcomes both public and private patient referrals for the full spectrum of neurosurgical conditions, We are committed to prompt access, clear communication and timely correspondence back to you after every consultation.

Our team will contact the patient directly to schedule an appointment. To help us triage promptly, please include relevant clinical history, imaging reports, current medications and funding status where possible.

Urgent Referrals

We understand that some patients cannot wait. All referrals are triaged promptly and urgent cases are always accommodated. If your patient requires urgent review, please call our rooms directly on 1300 255 261 so the referral can be escalated immediately.

Dr Shaw and Dr Scherman are always happy to speak directly with referring doctors to discuss a patient’s clinical situation or answer any questions - please do not hesitate to call.

Second Opinions

We welcome referrals for second opinions. We understand that patients facing a significant neurosurgical diagnosis may wish to seek further advice, and we are happy to provide an independent, thorough assessment. All second opinion consultations are conducted with the same care and attention as any other appointment.

Public Patients

We welcome referrals for both public and private patients. Public patients may be seen in our consulting rooms but appointments are not bulk-billed and consultation fees apply. If surgery is required, we will make arrangements through the public hospital system.

Public patients may also elect to be referred directly to Dr Shaw or Dr Scherman’s outpatient clinic at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Referrals should be addressed to Dr Shaw or Dr Scherman at:
