We want your experience with Sydney Centre for Neurosurgery to be as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here you will find everything you need to know before, during and after your appointment.

Making an appointment

A referral from your GP or treating specialist is required before booking a consultation.

Please ensure your referral has been sent to our rooms before calling to make an appointment.

To book, please contact us during business hours, Monday to Friday:

Phone: 1300 255 261

Email: reception@sydneycns.com.au

Consultations are available face-to-face at our Newtown and Orange consulting rooms.

Telehealth appointments are also available for patients in rural, regional, interstate and international locations.

Preparing for your Initial Appointment

  1. Arrange your scans

Imaging is an essential part of your neurosurgical assessment. Please bring a record of any and all previous scans, including when and where each scan was obtained. Our surgeons will always review your imaging personally — not just the written reports — so having access to the actual scans is important. If you are unable to obtain physical copies, please let us know as soon as possible so we can help arrange another way for your surgeon to access them.

  2. Complete your Patient Information Form

We will send you a Patient Information Form when your appointment is confirmed. Please complete and return it by email to reception@sydneycns.com.au before your appointment, or bring a completed copy with you on the day. You are welcome to complete it electronically if you have received a PDF copy.

  3. Bring a support person

You are very welcome to bring a partner, family member or friend to your appointment. Having someone with you can be helpful — both for support and for remembering information discussed during the consultation. You may also find it useful to bring a written list of questions.

What to bring on the day of your appointment

Please ensure you have the following with you:

  • Completed Patient Information Form (if not already emailed)

  • All past and recent scans and imaging reports, including a record of when and where each scan was obtained

  • A list of your current medications

  • Medicare card, Pension card or Veterans Affairs card

  • Private health insurance details, if applicable

  • WorkCover pre-approval letter, if applicable

Fees & Payments

Consultation fees are payable on the day of your appointment. We accept credit card (Visa or Mastercard) and EFTPOS. If you bring your Medicare card, we can process your Medicare claim on the day.

For more information about fees, please contact our rooms directly on 1300 255 261.

Public Patients

We welcome both public and private patients. Please note that consultation fees apply to all patients seen in our rooms, regardless of funding status. If surgery is required, this can be arranged through the public hospital system where applicable.

Public patients also have the option of being seen through public outpatient clinic at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where consultations are covered under Medicare. If you would like to explore this pathway, please let us know and we can help facilitate the referral.

WorkCover and CTP patients

If your appointment relates to a WorkCover or CTP matter, you will need to arrange a pre-approval letter before your consultation. Please either bring this letter with you on the day or arrange for it to be sent to our rooms in advance — and call us a week before your appointment to confirm it has been received.

Please note: if you arrive without a pre-approval letter, payment will be required upfront on the day and you can claim this back from your insurer. CTP and Comcare patients will also need to pay upfront and claim back regardless of whether a pre-approval letter is provided.

Appointment Reminders & Cancellations

We will send you a courtesy SMS reminder 72 hours before your appointment. Please reply ‘Y’ to confirm.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let us know as soon as possible and no later than two business days before your appointment. Cancellations with less than two business days’ notice may incur a cancellation fee. As appointments are often booked well in advance, early notice allows us to offer your time to another patient in need.

Follow-up Appointments

If you are returning for a follow-up, please arrange any new scans one to two weeks before your appointment so results are available in time. Remember to bring both your recent and past scans and reports.
